Ancestry

While Ancestry is a paid membership genealogy site, it has a lot of positives going for it. One they have the largest Database of DNA samples out of all the other Genealogy sites that offer this service. They also have billions of records from the US to Europe, Asia, Africa, South America etc. They also are the largest Genealogy service online to date.

Find A Grave

Find a Grave used to be a independent website but was recently bought by Ancestry. This website is really a great source of information as it is a database for Gravesites. If you are looking for an ancestors grave you may be able to find it here. You can request pictures from volunteers to confirm dates if a photo isn't present. This site is updated by family members and volunteers so please make sure you confirm your information.

Family Search

Family Search is a great website to start your genealogy search. It is a free membership site, to access records you will need to sign up. Not all records are free as some are linked to other outside paid sites. Please verify information though as information can be changed by other members of the sites.

MyHeritage

MyHeritage is another paid genealogy site, like Ancestry. Much like Ancestry they have billions of records available to their members. They also offer DNA services. Unlike Ancestry though they allow you to upload your raw data file to their website. So if you were to get your DNA done at Ancestry you can download the data file and upload it to MyHeritage giving you an extra boost in finding relatives.

GEDmatch

GEDmatch provides DNA and genealogical analysis tools for amateur and professional researchers and genealogists. Most tools are free, but we do provide some premium tools for users who wish to help support us with contributions. You will need to upload DNA and / or genealogical (GEDCOM) data to make use of the tools here.

GenealogyBank

GenealogyBank is a great resource for Newspapers articles, Birth Records, Marriage Records, Passenger Lists, along with Obituaries and Historical books along with other documents. It is a paid membership site however.

Google Newspaper Archives

Google Newspaper Archives is a great free resource for historical newspaper clippings. It can be hard to navigate but there is a wealth of information that can be found in the many articles they have in their database.

Dead Fred

Trace your roots for FREE on their searchable database containing thousands of identified and mystery photos for genealogy enthusiasts looking for long-lost family. Anyone who finds a photo of a direct ancestor that is owned by the archive will receive the photo for free. If the historic photos you find peak your interest in genealogy, you can continue your research by doing a family search there.

Newspapers.com

Newspaper.com is a Newspaper repository owned by Ancestry. This site is a great source for historical newspapers paper clippings and can help you find information through obituaries, marriage and engagement announcements, and birth announcements along with news from your ancestors. It is a paid subscription but is user friendly with how you conduct searches.

Fold3

Fold3 is a great resource for Military records. They have records dating back to the Revolutionary War to Recent Wars. If you have Veterans in your family this is a must have subscription. It is also Ancestry owned and user friendly. It is a paid membership also.
